Review Sites

Of course they are important

While Yelp and other consumer review sites are not stricly speaking social media they do let people be “social”. Customers can exchange opinions and share photos about your business on review sites.

If for no other reason than to understand and respond to what people are saying about your business, you should claim your listing on the most popular sites.

Handling Bad Reviews

Eventually it will happen. Someone will have a bad experience and write a bad review about your business. Small businesses owners should think about what you will do when this happens, and have a general plan. Medium and large businesses should have a written plan / policy for handling bad reviews. You don't want to become famous because of a bad reaction to a bad review.

Be prepared to be contacted by Yelp about advertising on their site.

** Small businesses may not want to pay Yext to manage their listing. If you are willing to pay between $3/week to $20/week this service will notify you whenever someone reviews your business on one of several web sites.
